stewarded one of the official 47 coaches alongside the 8 trust coaches. In some respects the organisation suffered as the club car park was only half the size it should have been due to the other circus that had been using the facilities. We had added stress as we had bought twelve tickets together the previous Sunday which only arrived on the Friday, two were for my dad and brother who live down South and would be meeting us at the ground alongside another couple who where staying in London. Of the remainder we were split up between three coaches. Arriving at the ground two hours before kick off the build up should have been great however wembley way seemed eerily quiet, quieter than last years final at any rate. Half our party did their own thing whilst the remainder bought programmes and scarfs before heading to Mcdonalds, we planned to get in the ground an hour before but it seemed more like 30mins. The build up hadn''t been great as we had been allocated the unlucky west end and been reminded the club with the best success rate in play off was the team finishing third which happened to be fgr. My previous visits to the old wembley with rovers had a far better feel as they had been fuller and with the top tier closed and the vast majority of the second tier empty the bottom tier was half full and despite outnumbering the fgr fans aprox 15k to 3k im starting to question the venue, that said it would be a shame to remove the opportunity for teams who would only get there through this avenue. As for the game fgr started the best and took an early lead only for connor jennings fabulous strike putting us back on terms. Tranmere have been battling against adversity all season with an horrendous catalogue of serious injuries including two broken legs and six ACL injuries decimating the squad and with Wallace the latest the midfield was particularly vunerable and we were forced to play striker mangan on the wing. The game had become very even with both sides spurning great chances but not for the first time the woefull man in black changed the tide as Jennings lost the ball in the fgr half he was sythed down moments later off the ball but the ref chose to play on and fgr scored from that break. The second half was very frustrating and whilst it can''t be argued that fgr adapted better their spoiling tactics were excessive. Earlier in the season they had battered us for 45 minutes at the new lawn playing some of the best football i''ve seen in the national league but last seasons game at prenton park had shown the ugly side of their game very dirty and unsporting which was an over riding memory for most superwhites and this was the tactics they employed today. The other over riding memory when one of their players went down on the touchline which appeared to be more timewasting, tranmere had possession and passed the ball back to Davies in the tranmere goal the ref stopped play to allow attention for the player but instead of dropping the ball at the feet of Davies to restart which has become nornal practise he awarded a drop ball midway between the two positions whilst instructing the fgr player to play the ball back to davies pointing directly at the keeper instead he kicked it into touch by the corner flag insensing everyone other than the faithfull from nailsworth. It is very hard not to sound bitter as i''ve every confidence without those key injuries and some very very poor officials we would have been promoted but on the day we didn''t have a strong enough squad and fgr shaded it. In revue of the season tranmere started the season with a new away record 15 unbeaten if memory serves(extended from the end of 2015/16) and finished with a new points total record of 95. We equalled the leagues highest win record when beating Solihull moors 9-0 and set new attendance records at both solihull and maidstone and featured in ten live tv games on BT sport. On a personal note it was my second season of being ever present home and away in the league with the only blip the fa trophy replay at Chelmsford but not for the lack of trying! I''d added 13 new grounds to my list Sutton, North Ferriby Solihull Moors and Maidstone in the national league with three trips to Scotland to Edinburgh city, Cowdenbeth and Raith rovers alongside Bohemians in Ireland and Rhyl(neutral for Connahs Quay) in Wales. In the lower leagues AFC Fyldes old and new grounds, Curzon Ashton and Harrow Borough. I also saw Stamford play for the first time at Wrexham and went to the Chester v Torquay game the same day that i''d watched Tranmere v Wrexham.
