Total vists 2.5(3) tranmere visits 1.5! Other game v York First visit to the shay was one of my worst footballing visits pretty much a nightmare from start to finish. At the time i was working in the North East and couldn''t finish early so just grabbed my away shirt and hit the A1 in my mk1 cavalier(the one which looked similiar to a chevette) tried taking a short cut through Ripon and Harrogate getting stuck behind broken down buses and farm vehicles eventually arriving at half time having missed 5 goals as Tranmere trailed 2-3. In my rush to get into the ground i left my lights on which cost me later in the form of a flat battery. My next task was to get in the ground as the turnstiles were closed fortunatley the office staff sorted me out and i got to see us score twice more to win the first leg league cup tie 4-3. After the game i wondered into town whilst i waited for the AA to arrive and fix my car but only having my away shirt and no coat ended up being chased by a dozen halifax teenagers! To say i had seen a full game at the ground i paid a second visit two years later for the visit of York not realising this was a grudge match which had its share of crowd trouble. So today was third time lucky incident free fourtunatley. I felt in the first half Tranmere were by far the better team both in possession and chances but Norwoods opener was cancelled out shortly after by a 20yarder that flew in off the underside of the bar. Former rovers legend jim Harvey in his capacity of caretaker manager of Halifax got his side fired up for the second half( his record now is played 5 won 3 drawn 2 goals for 15 goals against 5), rovers slipped a couple of gears whilst Halifax moved up a few to make the second period much more balanced. On the downside the away fans reaction to Tomlinson coming on which was roundly booed and heckled, he''s had a tough start with us but didn''t deserve that reception and he nearly won us the game with a driven angled shot through the keeper which smashed against the upright with some force. Halifax where reduced to 10 men on 86 minutes but held on for the point. Tranmere PLD 1.5(2) W1 D1 L0 GF 3(5) GA 1(4) # figures in brackets indicate the total goals including those missed in the first game
