Match no. 237. Geoff Hurst Testimonial. Hurst put West Ham ahead but goals from Ted Macdougall, Jimmy Greaves and Rodney Marsh (2) meant the European Xi were 4-1 ahead with 14 miutes to go. Hammers then scored 3 goals in 5 minutes through Pop Robson (2) and Clyde Best to force an entertaining draw. Mordecai Spiegler of Israel appeared as a second-half substitute for the all-star team. West Ham had tried to sign him after the 1970 World Cup Finals but the Football League blocked it.
