Got a friendly welcome at the Pub of the Newport County AFC Supporters Club next to the river - the walls and ceilings were covered in scarves, flags and shirts of different teams. The ground is shared with the local rugby team so the pitch isn''t great, but it''s a nice little stadium. 2 poor teams played out a mistake filled game. Newport (bottom of league) looked like a team who desperately needed a first win of the season. York, (4th bottom) weren''t much better. But Newport conceded 2 very soft goals following mistakes, York grew in confidence and scored an excellent 3rd, and then Newport had a man sent off for a 2nd booking - so game over. Terry Butcher has his work cut out managing Newport. Unlike their manager they''re a very lightweight team physically. But despite the terrible performance and result and start to the season, the Newport fans were magnificent. Singing all the game through with drum and flags - and absolutely no abuse of the team or manager. Fickle Forest fans could learn a thing or two from Newport fans. I liked the mascot too - Spytty the Dog!
