First competetive game at Cardiff's new stadium. Very nice new concrete, etc. New stadia are great and the way forward but like shopping centres they're all the same. Had e-mailed Cardiff before game saying I'd be attending as member of doingthe92.com and 100 grounds blog, but didn't get a reply. Very expensive to get in and eat -even the pies are all the same in these new grounds!   Although not a Scunthorpe fan (rather an understatement!!) Scunny didn't deserve to lose 4 - 0 but didnt turn their initial superiority into goals.

A most enjoyable day, travelling cheaply by rail from Manchester. The proximity of new and old grounds highlights the improvements for spectators. Sad old Ninian looks really decrepit. Cardiff have a bright future with a good team and strong support. Initially Scunny played better and should have scored at least one but once Cardiff got going they played some excellent football and might have had even more. In some ways 4-0 was hard on Scunthorpe who looked better than several teams I saw last year.   - For a new ground the atmosphere was excellent, but there is still the great all-seater problem, people jumping to their feet if a goal-chance looks likely. Cardiff had apparently appealed to the FA for a standing section but were turned down. When is common sense going to return? This leaping to one''s feet seems a natural reaction to some and is almost impossible to stop. However, if there were smallish, safe standing areas, with limited numbers it would be somewhere to send those who still insisted in standing up in the seated areas  -
