Match no. 1362. Last league game of the season. Stevenage went into the game as one of 5 teams all in contention for the last play-off place. They had to win and then needed Newport and Exeter to lose and Colchester and Carlisle fail to win. Borough did their bit but it was always a long-shot. With Colchester winning 3-0 at Lincoln for most of the afternoon it was clear that Borough were going to miss out. In the event, Newport''s late equaliser at Morecambe meant they claimed 7th place by one point with Borough finishing in 10th place. This was only the third time I''ve been to a game on 4th May and the first for 38 years - Match no. 514 - Slough Town 4-2 Walthamstow Avenue - Hitachi Cup Final at Church Road, Hayes - 4.5.1981. Walthamstow Avenue - a great name of amateur football sadly no longer with us.
