More West Midlands hi-jinks whilst at Uni in Birmingham.
The Bescot was lovely and easy to get to by public transport. I took a nice quick train from New Street to Bescot Stadium station, which as the name suggests is right outside the ground.
The West Midlands Constabulary are particularly reviled by a lot of City fans but there seemed to be no trouble getting in on this particular day. I got a Balti pie from the refreshments kiosk and took my place towards the middle of the away end. City had a very good following due to the ease of travel up the M5 and quite a few of the fans were enjoying a game of throw the football at the window of the police control box!
At the time Walsall were flying high at the top of the old 2nd Division and looked certs to get promoted. City, as usual, were flattering to deceive and although sometimes looking really good, could pull out a stinking performance the very next game.
Thankfully Classy City turned up on this day and they had much the better of the game versus a very solid Walsall side. Kevin Amankwaah and loan signing Dani Rodrigues were the star performers on the day. The latter really should have scored too.
Walsall held on to deny City the win, but a 0-0 draw was more than decent.
